There are events where everything just clicks. This was one of them. A close group of fifteen friends and family gathered in a West Vancouver backyard to celebrate a birthday — and by the time the first pie came out of the oven, nobody was looking at their phone.
We set up the oven on the patio about 90 minutes before guests arrived. West Vancouver backyards tend to be generous with space, and this one gave us a perfect corner with good sightlines from the main gathering area — exactly the kind of setup that turns the oven into part of the evening rather than just a food station. By the time the first guests walked through the gate, the smell of charring dough was already doing the work for us.
With 15 guests, the pace was relaxed and personal. Pies came out every 90 seconds, sliced straight onto boards and placed at the centre of the table. People grabbed slices as they were talking, doubled back for another, argued good-naturedly over whether the funghi or the margherita was better. That back-and-forth is exactly what mobile pizza catering does to a room — it gives everyone something to gather around.
The kids were particularly committed. One of them made it through four slices of pepperoni before the adults noticed. There was Perrier on ice, good music, and the kind of easy energy that only happens when a group of people already like each other and you've just given them the right excuse to slow down.
The menu
For this event we ran a focused menu of three pies: Margherita, Pepperoni, and Funghi. Keeping the selection tight at smaller gatherings means every pizza gets proper attention — we're not rushing to keep up with 80 people. Each one came out properly blistered, with the kind of char and pull you only get from a 800°F oven running at full heat.
